Gum Named to AFCA All-America Team

Senior linebacker CJ Gum has been named to the American Football Coaches Association 2011 Division III All-America team.

Gum, the two-time North Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year (2010, 2011), joined 24 other players selected by a panel of Division III head football coaches from around the country.

Gum led the Little Giants in tackles this year with 105 (60 solo, 45 assists) and was second in tackles for losses with 13 for 46 yards. He finished the season with four sacks for 24 yards and forced two fumbles. Gum helped the Wabash defense rank fifth in the nation in rushing defense (78.08 yards per game) and 11th in scoring defense (12.92 points per game). The Little Giants were also 12th in total defense, holding opposing teams to an average of 249.5 yards per game. Gum set a single-game team best for Wabash with 16 tackles in the Monon Bell Classic in a 45-7 win over DePauw, and tied for the single-game team high with with 3-1/2 tackles for losses versus Washington University and Mount Union. His 2-1/2 sacks in the Little Giants' season-ending loss in the NCAA Division III quarterfinals at Mount Union also tied for the single-game best by a Wabash defender this year.

Gum earned 2011 D3football.com All-North Region honors. He was named to the 2010 D3football.com All-America squad as a Third Team selection.
