The Wabash College 1600-meter relay team posted the fourth-quickest time among men's Division III squads Friday night at the Dr. Keeler Invitational at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.

The quartet of Jake Waterman, Cole Hruskovich, Joel Whittington, and John Haley combined to run a time of 3:12.55 in the 4x400-meter relay to win the event and set a new school record. Their time trails only the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (3:10.75), North Central (3:11.65), and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (3:11.96) as teams enter the final week of qualifying races for the upcoming NCAA DIII national championship meet in California.

Several other Little Giant athletes competed, working to improve their places in the national rankings in hopes to earn a trip to nationals. Ronnie Posthauer finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.80, placing him 23rd on the national listings. Daniel Ambrosio and Evan Groninger finished second and third, respectively, in the javelin throw. Neither was able to improve on their current national-best marks. Groninger enters the final week of competition eighth in the country with a throw of 206 feet, 4 inches (62.90 meters) set at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships. Ambrosio is in 11th place with a throw of 203 feet, 8 inches (62.08 meters) set at the beginning of the season at the J. Owen Huntsman Wabash Relays.

Derek De St Jean finished fifth in the discus throw with a mark of 46.27 meters (151 feet, 10 inches). His best mark of the year is a throw of 48.10 meters (157 feet, 10 inches) which places him 36th on the national list. Joel Beier took sixth place in the shot put with a mark of 15.13 meters (49 feet, 7.75 inches), but has not been able to crack the top-50 spots in that event.

Matt Knox took ninth place in the pole vault by clearing 4.46 meters (14 feet, 7.50 inches). His best height of 4.75 meters (15 feet, 7 inches) ranks him 33rd in the nation.

Wabash will compete at Ohio Wesleyan University on Monday before concluding the regular season at North Central on Saturday.
