Five Wabash runners finished within less than a minute of one another to guide the Little Giants to a 12th-place finish at the Notre Dame Cross Country Invitational Friday night.
The Little Giants competed against some of the top teams in the area, including Division III national powers North Central and Calvin.
Shane Hoerbert was the top finisher for Wabash, crossing the finish line in 40th place with a time of 25:36.
Billy McManus was the next Little Giant to finish, taking 45th place with a time of 25:48.
Jake Waterman finished 59th (26:14) in a field of 143 competitors.
Jake Ponton was four seconds back to finish in 62nd place (26:18).
Dalton Boyer was the fifth Wabash runner to place, crossing the line 26:32 in 75th.
The Red Pack scored a total of 275 points. North Central College won the Men's Gold Division race with a total of 54 points. University of Texas as Arlington took second with 73 points. Calvin College was third (96), followed by Windsor (96) and Notre Dame's secondary group of runners (145).
Wabash returns to action Saturday when the remainder of the team competes at the Earlham Invitational. The next race for those who competed at Notre Dame will race again at the Gibson Family Invitational in Terre Haute on October 6.
