Wabash golfers will head to Granville, Ohio for the first of two dates of competition that make up the 2013 North Coast Athletic Conference Golf Championship Series. The Little Giants were picked to finish eighth of out 10 teams in the annual pre-championship poll.
The championship series takes place over four rounds. Two 18-hole rounds will be played at the Granville Golf Club this weekend. The final two rounds will take place at Oakhaven Golf Club in Delaware, Ohio May 4-5.
James Kennedy tops the Wabash golf team with a scoring average of 79.11 over 18 rounds this season. He is competing at the NCAC Championships for the first time.
Seth Hensley tied for 16th in 2012 after firing a four-round total of 393, including a 75 over the first 18 holes. He enters this year's event averaging 80.06 strokes in 18 rounds with two top-5 finishes along with a top-10 finish in 11 tournament efforts.
Logan Burdick also played in all four rounds last season. He finished 36th overall in 2012 with an average of 84.80 strokes over 72 holes. He is averaging 82.63 strokes in 16 rounds heading into the weekend.
Nick Sommer only played the final two rounds of the 2012 tournament with a total score of 254 (78-87-89) in a three-round effort in the second event of the championship series. He owns the lowest 18-hole round this season for the Little Giants, shooting a 72 in the fall event of the Giant-Engineer Match Play Classic. Sommer is averaging 82.88 strokes in 17 rounds this season.
Freshman Cameron Tayler claimed the final spot on the team for this weekend's competition. He is averaging 81.73 strokes over 15 rounds this season.
Wabash finished seventh last year, tallying 1,624 strokes over 90 holes for an average of 324.80 per round. Wittenberg was the top pick among the men's coaches in this year's poll, receiving 86 total points and seven first-place votes. Ohio Wesleyan picked up one first-place vote and 79 total points. Allegheny was picked to finish third (71), followed by Denison and DePauw in fourth place, with Denison earning one first-place vote. Wooster was selected to place sixth (44 points), followed by Kenyon (38). Wabash received 27 points, with Hiram (17) and Oberlin (10) wrapping up the rankings.
