Wabash had little trouble earning its second consecutive NCAA DIII Great Lakes Regional title Saturday. The Little Giants placed all seven runners in the top-30.
The Little Giants nearly lapped the field in terms of team score, beating second-place Mount Union by nearly 100 points while earning a fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA National Championship meet as a team. Wabash scored 46 points, with Mount Union finishing second with 135 points despite earning the top-two individual places.
Once again the Wabash depth showed.
Nick Boyce took top honors for the Little Giants in this race, finishing fifth overall with a time of 24:41.2 at the Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio.
Adam Togami was next to cross the finish line, capturing sixth place with a time of 24:41.9.
Fabian House scored a ninth-place finish by crossing the line in 24:45.1.
Jared Burris captured 12th place (24:46.5), followed by
Mason McKinney in 14th place (24:52.6).
Colin Rinne finished less than three seconds later in 15th place (24:54.9).
Billy McManus was the final Little Giant finisher, taking 28th place at 25:08.7.
Wabash captured its second straight regional after ending a 17-year run by Calvin College last year. This year the Knights provided little challenge for the Little Giants. Calvin took fourth overall with 157 points behind third-place Rose-Hulman (148).
The victory sends Wabash back to the Golf Center course next Saturday for nationals. Wilmington College and the Warren County Visitors Bureau served as hosts for the regional and will repeat the effort Saturday for the national championship meet. The men's race begins at 1 p.m.
