Mason McKinney and sophomore
Dominic Patacsil competed at the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championship race Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky. Both runners placed in the top-100 in the field of 280 competitors.
Patacsil crossed the line in 25:07.09 for a 52nd-place finish, 12 seconds quicker than his time at last year's championship event and an improvement of 62 places.
McKinney, competing in his final cross country race for the Little Giants, finished 90th with a time of 25:21.5.
"The guys ran a solid race," Wabash head coach Colin Young said. "Dominic took a spill about 1,000 meters into the race, eventually working his way back through the field. I think if the race were a little longer he would have kept moving up. He was the 11th-quickest sophomore and finished 12 seconds out of earning All-America honors.
"Mason stuck his nose in with the leaders and was around 18th place at about the mile mark. He was still battling some congestion which hampered his breathing, so he faded a little bit at the end but still finished 27 seconds out of earning All-America status at 35th place. Both guys were solid all year. They never made one race more important than any other. This was a good way to cap Mason's cross country career, and Dom is hungry and knows he is right there for next year."
