Cliff, as a four-year letterman in basketball, you are one of just a handful of Little Giants in our proud history to score in double figures in each of your four seasons – rare company, indeed.
Playing in 91 games at center for Coach Snowy Simpson’s teams, you scored 1,223 points for a lifetime average of 13.4 points per game. You were also a prolific rebounder, leading the team in boards four straight seasons. To this day, you rank third all-time with 763 rebounds for a career average of 7.6 boards per game.
As a freshman, you almost averaged a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 9.1 rebounds per game. Your best scoring season came in 1974-75, when you led the team with an average of 18.5 points per game. Our basketball record book is old and deep, yet you rank in the top-20 all-time in rebounds, field goals, points, rebounding average, and made free throws.
While Snowy’s teams had a rough go of it playing in a rugged conference against teams with scholarships, you consistently lit up the scoreboard and pulled down the rebounds with a Wabash Always Fights attitude. And it was fitting that you closed out your career by beating DePauw twice in your senior season.
Therefore, the National Association of Wabash Men is proud to induct you into the Wabash Athletics Hall of Fame. Congratulations, Cliff, you are Some Little Giant!
