An all-around athlete at Earlham College, · "Country" Huntsman coached seven sports, taught all physical education classes and served as athletic director at his alma mater from 1935 to 1949. He arrived at Wabash in 1949 with an amazing ability to spot talent and hone it to its highest capacity.
He had 12 undefeated seasons and won 11 Little State titles, five Great Lakes College Association titles, two NCAA Mideast College Division track crowns, and five top-eight NCAA College Division finishes in cross country. The father of Stan and Jerry, Huntsman, in whose honor Wabash dedicated its all-weather track in 1971, will long be remembered as one of the· truly great developers of Wabash men. Huntsman died June 14, 1975.
