Jacob E. Sedmak ’68
Wabash Athletics Hall of Fame
November 12, 2010

Jacob E. Sedmak, the National Association of Wabash Men is proud to welcome you back to your alma mater and pleased to honor your athletic achievements on this occasion. You came to Wabash from Canonsburg, Pennsylvania following in the footsteps of your brothers, Gerry and Jim. All of you were talented athletes, but you stood out as a versatile athlete known as the best wrestler of your era.

A member of Sigma Chi, you majored in economics and history and earned seven varsity letters in cross country, track, and wrestling. While you were an excellent distance runner — taking second in the steeplechase at Little State — it is your wrestling career that we honor on this day. You earned three letters at 130 and 137 pounds, finishing your career with a 46-10 dual meet record. You were the 1966 Little State Champion at 130 pounds and at one point won 13 straight matches, which helped you to Most Valuable Wrestler honors and a trip to the national championships. As a junior, you were 11-2, won the Great Lakes Colleges Association championship, and earned the Sportsmanship Award.

In your senior year, you earned a second MVP award, served as co-captain, and led the team in pins — a team that beat Notre Dame. Your talents in all three sports helped you earn the 1967 Pete Vaughan Award. After graduation, you served in the Army for two years, and won the Fort Dix wrestling championship. A black belt in judo, you have competed in nearly 500 road, track, and trail distance races.

For standing out as one of the great Mat Men for Coach Max Servies and a lifetime of athletic accomplishments, the National Association of Wabash Men is proud to induct you in the Wabash College Athletics Hall of Fame. Jake Sedmak — Some Little Giant!
