Joseph Gawrys entered Wabash in 1972 from Indianapolis and immediately established himself as one of Wabash's greatest swimmers. Recruited by Coach Doug Landgraf, he earned four letters and was named the swimming team's MVP three years in a row.
An eight-time All-America backstroker, Gawrys won the NCAA Division III title in the 100 backstroke in 1976. In addition to these individual honors, he helped the Little Giants to eleventh- and sixth-place finishes in the National Championship meets in 1975 and 1976.
