A native of LaTrobe, Pennsylvania and graduate of Derry Area High School, Jon G. "Jack" McHenry entered Wabash in the fall of 1958 and left as one of the most versatile football players in school history. Playing part of your career with Coach Garland Frazier and finishing with Coach Ken Keuffel, you lettered all four of your years at Wabash as a triple threat — rusher, passer, and receiver. After a promising rookie season, you were moved to quarterback at the start of your sophomore season when Rudy Folta got hurt, splitting time with Scottie Polizotto. As a junior, you were all over the field.

A right halfback, you were second on the team in rushing and were named the team's Most Valuable Player. You threw touchdown passes—including a big throw vs. Washington, while also rushing as well as any player in the state, which you proved with a 127-yard effort vs. Valparaiso. With Coach Keuffel's single wing attack firmly grasped, you earned Most Valuable Player and Little All-America honors in 1961. You threw for one touchdown and ran for another in a 12-7 win over Evansville, then came back to throw two more touchdown passes in a win over Washington. A couple of weeks later, you were at it again, throwing a 44-yard touchdown strike to Dick White, while rushing for two TDS as Wabash built a 21-6 halftime lead at Heidelberg. Unfortunately for Wabash, you broke your ankle on the final play of the first half at Heidelberg and were lost for the season.

A member of Delta Tau Delta, Sphinx Club, and the W-Men's Club, you capped your outstanding collegiate career by winning the Pete Vaughan Outstanding Athlete Award. An economics major, you continue to cover yardage—only now it's with a driver and wedge on the golf course. {You are past-president and state representative for the Canton Claims Association, and continue your long career in the insurance business.  You and your wife, Barbara, are the parents of two boys, Jeffrey and Mark.} The National Association of Wabash Men is proud to induct Jon G. “Jack” McHenry into the Wabash College Athletic Hall of Fame.
