Matt Hudson, it is a real pleasure to help tell your Hall of Fame story, for you seemingly came out of nowhere to become one of the greatest quarterbacks in Wabash history. Full stop.

A freak injury in the opening game sidelined pre-season All-American Dustin Huff, which opened the door of opportunity for you to start at quarterback for the 2007 Little Giants. You did not disappoint. Stepping up as a sophomore, you helped Wabash to an 11-2 record and you helped win two playoff games. Your numbers were excellent, especially considering nobody expected you to play at all: You hit on 67% of your passes, threw 24 touchdowns, and engineered an offense that averaged nearly 390 yards and 30 points per game. First Team All-NCAC honors followed.

As a returning starter in 2008, you again led Wabash to the playoffs, going 10-2 and winning a thriller at Case Western in the first round of the playoffs. That team averaged almost 440 yards and nearly 40 points per game. As a passer, you averaged 261 yards per game, threw 29 touchdowns, and hit on 64% of your throws. You earned the NCAC’s Mike Gregory Offensive Player of the Year award.

As a senior in 2009, you exorcised your demons by knocking off DePauw 32-19 – a game that featured one of the gutsiest fourth-down calls in Monon Bell Game history. Deep in Wabash territory, you pleaded with Coach Erik Raeburn to go for it, saying “I will not fail you Coach.” The rest was history. You led that team to the playoffs for a third straight year. It was a dominant year for you – you hit 68% of your passes, averaged 280 yards per game, and threw 25 touchdown passes. And, for the second straight year, you were the NCAC’s Offensive Player of the Year – as well as Wabash’s Pete Vaughan Award-winner.

Over the course of your career, you passed for 8,420 yards and 79 touchdowns, completing a Wabash record 66% of your passes. You rank among the top five quarterbacks in virtually every statistical category at Wabash. And your 30-6 overall record at the helm of Wabash’s offense earned you a spot on the NCAC’s 30th Anniversary All-Decade Team.

We admire your strong arm, soft touch, and exceptional winning percentage, and it’s a true honor to induct you in the Wabash Athletics Hall of Fame.

Matt Hudson, you are Some Little Giant!
