Lambert played with Pete Vaughan on the Crawfordsville High School basketball team that defeated Wabash twice for the Little Giants' only losses in the 1906-07 season.
An outstanding basketball and baseball player at Wabash, Lambert later succeeded his old teammate Vaughan as head basketball coach at Purdue University. In 29 seasons at West Lafayette, "Piggy" directed the Boilermakers to a 371-152 record and won 11 Big Ten titles. A member of the National Basketball Hall of Fame, Lambert died in 1958.
