Wabash Claims NCAC Outdoor Track and Field Title

Wabash captured four individual championships, earned 14 all-conference awards, and posted 28 top-eight finishes on the final day of the 2019 North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship Meet to win the men's team title for the seventh time overall.
 
The Little Giants claimed their first outdoor title since 2017 and swept both the indoor and outdoor championships for the 2019 season. Wabash scored a total of 209 total points, easily outdistancing Ohio Wesleyan University in second place with 139 points. Wooster finished third overall with a score of 113, followed by Oberlin (93), DePauw (86), Denison (63.5), Allegheny (47.5), Wittenberg (42), and Kenyon (26).
 
The team championship is the seventh overall for Wabash at the outdoor championship meet. The Little Giants won five consecutive titles from 2011 to 2015 in addition to claiming the 2017 championship.
 
Preston Whaley earned the Men's Newcomer of the Year Award after finishing as the overall leader in points scored with a total of 29 for the meet. He won the triple jump on Friday and added a long jump title on Saturday to also be named the Men's Field Event Athlete of the Year. He received all-conference honors with a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash and added a sixth-place in the 200-meter dash to complete his meet scoring total.
 
Wabash head coach Clyde Morgan along with assistant coaches Tyler McCreary, Emile Conde, Jeff Franklin, Joe Riordan, Bobby Thompson, and Robert Johnson were named the Men's Coaching Staff of the Year.
 
Whaley capturing the long jump title on Saturday with a collegiate-best leap of 6.88 meters (22 feet, 7 inches). Jared Strehl place third overall to earn All-NCAC honors with a career-best leap of 6.69 meters (21 feet, 11.5 inches). Whaley added a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash by finishing the race in 49.92. Tyler Ramsey placed sixth overall with a time of 50.59 with Andrew Young finishing right behind in seventh place at 51.08.
 
Max Bigler cleared a career-best height of 2 meters (6 feet, 6.75 inches) to capture the individual title in the high jump. Ahmaud Hill added an eighth-place finish in the event by clearing a career-best height of 1.81 meters (5 feet, 11.25 inches).
 
RaShawn Jones and Josh Wiggins finished 1-2 in the 110-meter hurdles for the Little Giants. Jones won the event with a time of 14.69. Wiggins turned in his fastest career time of 14.94 to finish second. Leo Warbington ran to fourth place overall with a time of 15.76 to match the top time of his career set in Friday's preliminary round.
 
Jones swept the titles in both hurdles events by winning the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.26. Wiggins added another all-conference award to his resume by posting a third-place finish in the race with a career-best time of 55.44.
 
Ethan Pine placed second overall in the 1500-meter run to earn a place on the all-conference team by finishing the race in 3:58.22. Joe Deiser scored two points for the Wabash team total with a seventh-place finish by crossing the line in 4:04.46.
 
The Little Giant foursome of Josh Wiggins, Isaac Avant, Brady Gossett, and Leon Ivy raced to second place in the 4x100-meter relay with their fastest time of the season at 42.00 to earn all-conference honors. Gossett picked up all-conference honors with a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.51. Jose Franco missed a place on the all-conference team by an eyelash at the line, finishing in fourth place with a time of 22.64. Whaley scored an additional three team points with his sixth-place finish with a time of 23.21.
 
Young, Franco, Ramsey, and Keith Abramson combined for a time of 3:22.26 to place second overall and earn all-conference honors in the 4x400-meter relay to close out the meet for the Little Giants.
 
Isaiah Campbell scored All-NCAC honors by placing third in the shot put with a top distance of 14.10 meters (46 feet, 3.25 inches). Garrett Horn placed fifth overall with a toss of 13.74 meters (45 feet, 1 inch) for his best career distance in the event.
 
Dominic Patacsil finished third in the 5,000-meter run with a career-best time of 15:00.55 to earn a place on the all-conference team and pick up six points for the Little Giants toward their team score.
 
Wabash picked up five points in the hammer throw with two top-eight finishes. Donnie Mader placed fourth overall with a career-best throw of 45.77 meters (150 feet, 2 inches). Russell Berning scored an eighth-place finish with a distance of 43.95 meters (144 feet, 2 inches). 
 
Lucas Bender cleared 4.20 meters (13 feet, 9.25 inches) to place fourth overall in the pole vault. Ballard Suiter also topped out at 4.20 meters in the pole vault to earn a fifth-place finish overall with his career-best effort. Hill earned another top-eight finish at the meet with a seventh-place finish at a career-best height of 3.95 meters (12 feet, 11.50 inches).
 
Avant scored two points for Wabash with a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.17.
