Wabash competed for the first time at the new indoor track and field facility at Wittenberg University on Saturday. The Little Giants scored 99 points to finish second out of eight teams competing at the Coach Rob – NCAC/OAC/HCAC Challenge.
Wabash produced a series of personal and season-best times in addition to breaking one school record.
Josh Wiggins set a personal-best tie in the 200-meter dash, finishing the race in 22.50 to place fourth overall. His time on the 300-meter oversized indoor track converts to 22.90 when compared to a 200-meter track time.
Ethan Pine and
Clarke Criddell scored first- and second-place points in the mile run. Pine completed the race in 4:26.14 while Criddell set a new personal-best time by finishing in 4:32.62.
Tyler Ramsey raced to second place in the 400-meter dash, finishing with a time of 51.11.
Juan Montenegro place fifth overall in the 400 with a time of 51.46. Jon Deem-Laureiro placed second in the 800-meter run by crossing the finish line in 1:58.50.
Brandon Peck also earned a second-place finish in the weight throw with a top distance of 15.66 meters (51 feet, 4.5 inches).
Two-time All-American hurdler
RaShawn Jones placed third in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles. He broke the tape in 8.33.
Sam Henthorn ran a personal-best time in the 3,000-meter run by completing the race in 8:38.31 to place third overall.
Luke Bender finished fourth in the pole vault by clearing 4.10 meters (13 feet, 5.25 inches) to match his best effort of the season.
Brandon English posted his best effort of the season in the shot put with a top effort of 13.63 meters (44 feet, 8.75 inches) to finish fifth overall.
Wabash finished second behind Mount Union with a total score of 313. Wittenberg finished third with 84 total points.
While the Wabash team competed in Springfield, Ohio, Saturday, a handful of Little Giants competed at non-scoring Tom Hathaway Distance Classic at the University of Indianapolis on Friday and Saturday.
Max Bigler finished third overall in the heptathlon with a total score of 3,954 points.
Ballard Suiter scored a total of 3,907 points to finish fourth.
Kamron Ferguson finished fourth in the triple jump with a top leap of 13.04 meters (42 feet, 9.5 inches).
Ahmaud Hill placed fifth overall with a distance of 12.75 meters (41 feet, 10 inches).
Wabash will compete at Rose-Hulman on Friday, January 31.
