Wabash Wins 2024 NCAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship

Wabash won the 2024 North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship to capture the program's tenth outdoor championship and 19th conference track and field title overall. 

The Little Giants scored 156 points to outdistance second place and pre-championship favorite Wittenberg with 144 points. Denison finished in third place with 135 total points. Oberlin placed fourth (119 points), followed by DePauw (97 points), Ohio Wesleyan (60 points), Wooster (54 points), Kenyon (45 points), and Hiram (5 points). The tenth outdoor title is the most in the history of the conference, breaking a tie for nine titles won by both Wabash and Ohio Wesleyan in the 40-year history of the NCAC. The Little Giants also won the 2023 NCAC Men's Cross Country title in the fall and placed second at the 2024 indoor track and field championships.

Junior Will Neubauer is the NCAC 800-meter champion after winning the finals on Saturday with a career-best time of 1:52.26. Haiden Diemer-McKinney also earned All-NCAC honors with a second-place finish in the finals. The sophomore finished the race in a season-best time of 1:52.28. Neubauer's time ranks 36th among Division III runners this season, while Diemer-McKinney is right behind the with 37th-quickest time overall this season. David Adesanya scored five additional points for the Little Giants with a fourth-place finish in the finals. The freshman posted a career-best time of 1:53.49.

Takeshi Greiner earned All-NCAC honors with his second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. The senior produced a new career-best time of 54.58 to score eight points for the Wabash team. Owen Smith picked up three points with his sixth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.61. Karston Runge added two points to the team's total with his seventh-place finish with a time of 58.80. Greiner added a sixth-place finish in the finals of the 110-meter hurdles after crossing the line in 15.56. Josh Massaquoi placed seventh in the final with a time of 16.07. 

Wabash locked up the team title by winning the final event of the two-day meet. Howie Steele, Nathan France, Diemer-McKinney, and Neubauer combined to win the 4x400-meter relay with a season-best time of 3:17.79 to score ten points and secure the championship. 

Quinn Sholar picked up his second all-conference award of the weekend with a second-place finish in the shot put. The sophomore turned in a top mark of 15.20 meters (49 feet, 10.5 inches) to capture second place overall. 

Sly Williams earned All-NCAC honors with his second-place finish in the triple jump, posting a career-best mark of 13.64 meters. 

Evan Furuness added a second-place finish in the hammer throw, earning All-NCAC honors with his career-best toss of 51.41 meters (168 feet, 8 inches). Lane Brockman added points to the team total with his fifth-place throw of 47.78 meters (156 feet, 9 inches) to set a new career-best mark. 

Brayden Curnutt joined the ranks of all-conference honorees for Wabash with his second-place finish in the 1500-meter run. The junior completed the race in 3:57.34  for the runner-up finish.

Conner Grimes placed third in the 200-meter dash for Wabash to earn All-NCAC honors. He finished with a time of 22.15 in the finals.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Smith, Grimes, Julius Hearns, and Tanner Brooks raced to fifth place with a time of 42.92. Brooks placed sixth in the finals of the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.27. 

France finished fifth in the 400-meter dash finals, turning in a career-best time of 49.67. 

Joe Barnett and Drake Hayes finished fifth and sixth in the 5,000-meter run. Barnett finished in 1528.05 to capture fifth place, with Hayes finishing a second behind in sixth at 15:29.33. 

Kannon Chase scored an eighth-place finish in the high jump by clearing 1.85 meters (6 feet, 0.75 inches). 

The Wabash coaching staff of Clyde Morgan, Tyler McCreary, Emile Conde, Mitchell Kessler, Dillon Fredrickson, and Robert Johnson were voted as the NCAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Coaching Staff of the Year by leading the Little Giants to the team title.
