Gooding took the ball along the left touchline before launching a pass toward the box that found Jennings. The rookie blasted a shot into the right corner of the net to score his first collegiate career goal.
"We needed to come back from yesterday's loss to Rose-Hulman and prove that we can play better soccer," head coach Roberto Giannini said. "We did a better job of creating attacking schemes today. We only scored one goal today but we were close on several other well-developed attacks. We kept possession of the ball and I believe we played a tough game against a good opponent."
Matt Paul earned his second shutout of the season. The junior turned aside four shots on goal, facing a total of 12 attempts by the Quakers. Wabash finished with 11 total shots and seven shots on goal. Jennings fired two shots toward the net, while
Pat West and
Dylan Andrew each had two shots on goal, as well.
Ryan Fier added the final shot on goal.
"It's a great way to recharge after a couple of tough losses," Giannini added. "Now we have to continue that style of play with two more home matches later this week."
Wabash improves to 2-2-1 with the victory. The Little Giants are back at home on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. for a match against Hanover College. Saturday Wabash is at home against Centre College. That match begins at 5 p.m.
