Wabash outshot Centre College 15-9 overall in Saturday afternoon's home soccer match, but the Colonels scored one in each half to leave with a 2-0 victory.

The Little Giants were close on several attempts, but had three shots stopped by the Centre goalkeeper, one hit the post, and several others just miss the opening.

Centre scored a first half goal on a penalty kick by Austin Hall. Josh Settle scored the second goal when his centering pass hit the back of a player in the box and squirted into the net.

"This was just one of those day," head coach Roberto Giannini said. "We really played a good team in Centre, but we really showed some heart and effort and had several chances. Unfortunately a penalty kick and ball that richocheted past our keeper.

"I was very pleased with the Wabash soccer team I saw on the pitch today. Again, we showed a lot of heart, a lot of intensity, a lot of good soccer with some good combination passes. We were very solid in the back. We really gave nothing to Centre, and they are a very good program. We controlled the ball at midfield and that led to some of the opportunities up front. One ball hits the post, and on another their goalkeeper made a very good save near the line. At the end of the day I told the team I was tremendously proud of them."

Ryan Fier had three total shots and one shot on goal. Evan Coudriet and Femi Oluyedun each added shots on goal for Wabash (3-3-1).

Matt Paul finished the match with two saves on four shots.

Wabash returns to action with a home match on Tuesday at 5 p.m. against Anderson University.
