Wes Chamblee has been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week, presented by Scoutware, for his record-setting performance in Saturday's 49-7 win by Wabash at the University of Chicago.
Chamblee set Wabash and North Coast Athletic Conference records with a 94-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter of the Little Giants' game on Saturday. He broke the former record of 93 yards set by Frank Roman in 1946 and equalled by Geoff Walker in 2005. Walkers' return in 2005 also set the NCAC record at that time.
Chamblee also caught a six-yard touchdown pass for the first score in Saturday's game.
The South Bend, Indiana (St. Joseph's High School) product currently ranks third in the nation in punt return yardage with an average of 24.8 yards per return. He is also 14th among Division III players with an average of 30.5 yards per kickoff return.
Chamblee, an All-American return specialist in 2009, missed nearly the entire 2010 season after suffering a knee injury. He returned to running track and field in the spring of 2011, qualifying for the NCAA Division III National Championship meet in the 400-hurdles in his first outdoor hurdles event of the season.
