Soccer Drops 4-1 Match at Allegheny

Box Score Wabash Head Coach Chris Keller brought his Wabash soccer team to Allegheny College Saturday afternoon – the college where he spent five seasons as an assistant coach prior to taking over the Little Giant program this fall. Keller's former team scored two early second-period goals on the way to a 4-1 North Coast Athletic Conference victory over Wabash.

“We didn't have our greatest attacking performance on offense Saturday,” Keller said. “We had some issues with field possession and getting the ball into our attacking third of the field. Our guys worked hard, but we just didn't have a good performance today.

“Allegheny did a good job of capitalizing on some of our errors. That's what good teams do --- they score goals when you give them opportunities.”

The Gators (10-1-1, 2-0-1 NCAC) scored in the final minute of the first half to take a 1-0 lead. Conor Azevedo added his second goal of the match in the fourth minute of the second period to put Allegheny up 2-0. Chris Brennan added his fourth goal of the season in the 66th minute to stretch the lead to 3-0.

Steve Magura ended the shutout three minutes later by scoring for third time this season. He collected a pass from George Vinihakis at the far post to cut the lead to 3-1.

Daniel Szekely scored a late goal for the final tally of the contest.

The Gators outshot Wabash 14-4 with 11 shots on goal compared to three for Wabash. Matt Paul recorded seven saves for the Little Giants.

Wabash (3-9, 1-2 NCAC) will travel to Ohio Wesleyan Wednesday evening before heading to Denison next Saturday.
