Box Score A University of Chicago goal in the fifth minute of Saturday's soccer match at Wabash became the game-winner in a 1-0 loss for the Little Giants.
The Maroons' Jorge Bilbao scored off a pass from Kyle Kurfirst to give Chicago (3-1-1) to victory.
Wabash fired four shots on goal in the first 45 minutes in an effort to event to score.
Blake Jennings put two shots on net.
Levi Noblitt added a third shot attempt that Chicago goaltender Brett Wiesen turned aside.
The Little Giants nearly took the early momentum. The Little Giants just missed a scoring opportunity in the fourth minute on Noblitt's header and another by
Ethan Dove that just missed going into the net.
“We created some early scoring chances,” Wabash head coach
Chris Keller. “I thought we were going to get an early goal and take the momentum. Unfortunately we gave up a soft goal a minute later. Overall it was a pretty even game. We attacked a little more in the first half. We defended and attacked well, but just could not put anything in the net. We came close a couple of times in the second half.
“Moving toward the start of the conference season I'm pleased with the improvement in the team. We are never satisfied with a loss, but we are playing better.”
Matt Paul recorded four saves in the match.
Wabash (2-5) travels to Hanover on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. start. The Little Giants open North Coast Athletic Conference play Saturday at home against Oberlin at 4:30 p.m.
