Cody Buresh has been named the North Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Football Player of the Week and was selected as a member of the D3football.com Team of the Week.
Buresh earned the honor after leading the Little Giant defense with 11 tackles, including six solo stops, in the team's 35-2 victory at Denison on Saturday. The Holland, Michigan native also tied a Wabash record by making five tackles for losses totaling 30 yards. He equaled the mark of five TFLs made by Blair Hammer versus Earlham in 2001 and by Darryl Kennon in 2007, also against Earlham.
Buresh finished the game with 3-1/2 sacks for 28 yards and three pass breakups. He also forced a fumble in the second quarter that led to the Little Giants' second touchdown of the game.
Buresh is tied for first among all NCAA Division III players with an average of 2.25 sacks per game. He is second in the nation in tackles for losses with an average of 3.25, trailing only Matthew Markese from Salve Regina with 3.33 per contest. Buresh and the rest of the Little Giants' defense rank second in rushing defense, holding opponents to an average of 28.5 yards per game. They are ninth in scoring defense (7 points per game) and third in total turnover margin (+3.5 turnovers per contest).
