"Sometimes when you're physically tired you have to do a better job of staying mentally aware of the situation," head coach
Chris Keller said. "We made a lot of mental errors tonight. I told the guys that one mistake caused the goal, but there could have been several others that could have hurt us as well. We just need to be sharper mentally."
Wabash pushed the ball toward the goal several times late in the contest, including several point-blank shots in the final ten minutes. The Pumas were able to put a defender in the path of the shot, blocking the ball away before it could reach the goalkeeper.
Freshman
Adam Antalis came off the bench to fire four shots in 53 minutes of play.
Steve Magura added two attempts.
Senior
Matt Paul recorded three saves, including one on a blast from inside the box in the 61st minute to preserve the scoreless tie at the time.
"We create chances and have been all three games to this point in the season," Keller said. "Now we have to finish the chances that we do have — putting them away with a finishing touch. We can't afford to miss open opportunities and tonight it got us."
The Little Giants (1-2) are off until the weekend. Wabash will travel to Rose-Hulman on Saturday, followed by a Sunday match at Earlham College before returning for another home match on Tuesday against Oakland City University.
