Box Score The Wabash soccer team cut a 2-0 deficit in half off a goal by
Riley Pelton but could not add the equalizer over the final 13- minutes in Saturday's 2-1 loss at Kenyon.
Pelton collected a corner kick by
Geno James in the 78th minute and blasted a shot into the net for his first goal of the season. Kenyon (11-3-1, 4-0-1 NCAC)Â took a 1-0 lead off a goal by Jeremiah Barnes in the first half, then added a second by Nate Petrou in the 64th minute.
"We faced a very physical and athletic Kenyon team today," Wabash head coach
Chris Keller said. "We were very organized defensively. I was just a little bit disappointed with our lack of momentum going forward to attack. It seemed like we just didnt' want to get forward as much as we have been.
"That said we did have some guys really step up today. I thlink
Rodrigo Porras had a great game in the back along with a make-shift line. We moved
Ethan Dove to center back with
Adam Antalis.
Evan Coudriet had a good game, as well. However, it wasn't good enough against a team like Kenyon at the top of the North Coast Athletic Conference standings and has won 11 games. We got one back late, but it just wasn't enough."
Pelton was credited with the only shot of the match for the Little Giants. Kenyon finished 18 total shots and eight on goal.
Dayton Jennings recorded six saves.
Wabash (2-9-2, 0-4-1) returns to action Tuesday at home versus Wittenberg University at 4 p.m.
