Box Score Wabash took advantage of a 65-minute lightning delay by peppering Centre College with shots over the final 45 minutes before losing 1-0 to the Colonels. The match was the season-opener for the Little Giants.
A nearly-packed house watched second-year head coach
Chris Keller's young squad fire eight shots toward the goal in the final period after Centre took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute of the match. The Colonel's Cameron Miller collected a deflected shot attempt by teammate Jack Goblirsch on the left side of the net and fired the rebound home for lone goal of the contest.
The Little Giants were outshot 4-2 in the opening half but rallied after nearby thunder sent fans and players alike to the Knowling Fieldhouse as a safety precaution. When the match restarted, Wabash became the offensive aggressor.
"I thought we played much better in the second half," Keller said. "We were just a touch off on our passing, just missing on the final connection."
Steve Magura nearly tied the match in the first half, but an offside call cancelled a chance at a one-on-one versus the Centre goalkeeper. Magura led the team in shot attempts with three and nearly nailed another equalizer in the second half, but his header off a corner kick by
Geno James just sailed to the right of the net.
Blake Jennings and James each finished with two shot attempts.
Freshman
Dayton Jennings saved three shots in his first career start in goal for Wabash.
The Little Giants return to action Thursday evening with a match at Bluffton University.
