Soccer Stumbles at Spalding

Wabash lost 2-0 on the road at Spalding University Saturday afternoon.
Box Score Wabash played up a man most of Saturday's soccer match at Spalding, but it was the host Golden Eagles that picked up a 2-0 win.

Spaldings' Jackson Cantrell was issued a red card in the 28th minute of the match, giving the Little Giants an 11-on-10 advantage. Spalding (4-2) responded to the adversity by scoring its first goal in the 38th minute off the foot of Julio De Leon. The Golden Eagles added a second goal in the opening minutes of the second half to provide the final gap.

"We did not have a good showing today," Wabash head coach Chris Keller said. "We were not good and sharp on our possesion. When Spalding went down a man it seemed like they were the one with numbers up. We just did not play well. Our work rate wasn't there. Give all the credit to Spalding for creating chances and putting shot away for goals. We're just going to have to get back to working hard in training."

Wabash was outshot 18-15. The Little Giants produced five shots on goal compared to eight for Spalding. Rookie Geno James tallied five total shots, while Blake Jennings finished with three total shots with two ending in saves for the Golden Eagles.

Little Giants goalkepper Dayton Jennings recorded five saves in the loss.

Wabash (1-4-1) travels to Hanover College Tuesday for a 5 p.m. match.
