Box Score A furious offensive showing by the Little Giants produced everything but a goal in a Wabash 1-0 loss at Hiram. The Little Giants twice hit the post in the final 45 minutes in their 2013 North Coast Athletic Conference opening match.
Adam Antalis and
Riley Pelton each put shots on net that were collected by Terriers' goalkeeper Chris Minite, who entered the match for Hiram starter Matt Sacher. Wabash outshot Hiram 7-4 overall in the second half in an attempt to answer an early goal for Hiram (4-6-1, 1-1 NCAC). The Terriers' Zaire Morrison scored in the 16th minute of the match off a pass from Andres Ruiz.Â
"We played a solid game, particularly in the second half," Head Coach
Chris Keller said. "We gave up an early goal but I really thought we bounced back with pretty good effort. We were all over them in the second half but were unlucky. We hit the post twice and had a couple of near misses with five minutes left in the match. We all know at any level, particularly in college soccer, you have to be able to put the ball away on the shot. Overall though it was a great bounce back from the Chicago match."
Antalis and Pelton finished with the only shots on goal for Wabash.
Steve Magura,
Ivaylo Mantchev,
Geno James, and
Blake Jennings each were credited with shots in the match for the Little Giants.
Dayton Jennings took the loss for Wabash. He recorded five saves.
Wabash (2-6-1, 0-1 NCAC) travels to Oberlin College next Saturday. The match will be the last of a six-game series away from Mud Hollow Stadium for the Little Giants.
