Rose scored in the first six minutes of the second half on a goal by Williams Senat for a 1-0 lead. The Little Giants nailed the equalizer seven minutes later when
Geno James was taken down inside the box to award Wabash a penalty kick. For the second time in 48 hours,
Ivaylo Mantchev fired a shot into the goal on the PK, this time tying the score at 1-1.
The Little Giants fired three shots late in the second half that either sailed just outside or high of the goal or were turned away by Rose-Hulman (1-0-1) goalkeeper Drew Miller. Wabash keeper
Dayton Jennings was impressive on the defensive end for the Little Giants, finishing with seven total saves, including two key stops in the second half and first overtime.
Wabash nearly tallied the game-winner in the second overtime session when
Blake Jennings connected on a pass to
Riley Pelton, but the freshmen's quick shot missed outside the right post. Wabash outshot Rose 12-11 overall, with five shots finishing on net. Pelton led the way for the Little Giants with four total shots and two shot on goal. Mantchev finished with three shots, two going on net.
Wabash (1-1-1) returns to action Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Robbie Dreher finale against Earlham College. The classic is named in honor of the son of former Wabash soccer player Scott Dreher '82. Robbie died in a plane crash along with his mother, Alyce Mauricio Dreher, and maternal grandparents, John and Alice Mauricio, in 2006.
