Wabash Matches Unbeaten Mark with 3-0 Win at MSJ

Two goals in the first 40 minutes of Tuesday night's match led Wabash soccer to an eventual 3-0 win at Mount St. Joseph University and tied the school record with the Little Giants' eight win.

Wabash owns an 8-0-2 record through ten games, matching the 10-game unbeaten streak set by the 1986 team when it opened that season with a 9-0-1 mark.

Freshman Stojan Krsteski started the scoring with his second goal of the season off a pass from Adam Antalis in the 31st minute. Zach Woloshin added a second goal --- his third of the season --- just over five minutes later to put the Little Giants up 2-0, a lead the team held at the half.

Steve Magura picked up his third goal of the year in the 75th minute, taking a pass from Mike Gore to score the final goal of the match.

"This was a tight match at the beginning," Wabash head coach Chris Keller said. "Credit Mount St. Joseph for the way the team came out and played. When we made some substitutions, guys like Stojan, Woloshin, and Adam really came on to give us a spark. And once again our defense and goalkeeping provided a shutout."

Goalie Dayton Jennings and his defensive mates held the Lions (2-9) scoreless despite six shots on goal and ten total attempts in the match. Wabash tallied its three goals on 13 shots with seven ending up on net.

The blank sheet is the sixth of the season for Jennings and the eighth overall for Wabash. That ties another school record, matching the eight shutouts posted in 1997 when the Little Giants finished 11-7.

Wabash returns to North Coast Athletic action Sunday at 1 p.m. with a home match against Oberlin College.
