Jennings Sets Shutout Record in 0-0 Tie With Denison

Wabash junior Dayton Jennings became the all-time leader in shutouts after recording his 17th career save in a 0-0 draw with Denison Wednesday night.

Jennings made four saves to maintain the blank sheet in the tie. He moved past Tony Beuke '94 who recorded 16-1/2 shutouts from 1990-93.

Wabash finished with five shots on goal, with three tries coming in the second overtime session. Mike Gore, Max Rowley, and Nikola Kajmakoski each fired shots on net in the final 10 minutes of the match that were swallowed up by Denison goalkeeper Blake Schach. The Big Red (9-1-2, 1-1-2 NCAC) sent a shot toward the Wabash goal that hit the cross bar with 1:54 remaining in the final overtime, then had one final attempt that bounced over the bar just before the horn sounded to end the match.

"We played well defensively once again against a very solid Denison team," Wabash head coach Chris Keller said. "The decision making in our final third was little bit off today. Either the timing of the runs or the final decisions whether to lay it off, pass it, or shoot wasn't there. We weren't quite crisp enough to put the ball in the net. We should have had some more shots on goal. That is the disappointing part knowing we had opportunities to get in on Denison. "

Jennings faced seven total shot attempts from Denison. Wabash fired 14 shots total in the contest.

" Dayton has been huge for us," Keller said. "I think he's definitely an All-Conference and even an All-Region goalkeeper. We knew what we were getting when we recruited him. He was a high school All-American. He's the kind of guy who can keep you in a game you're not supposed to be in, and he might win you a game like Saturday at Oberlin. It helps the whole team knowing he's back there. Dayton always gives a lot of credit to the backs that he's played with over his three seasons as a starter."

Rowley came off the bench to lead the Little Giants with three shots and one shot on goal. Spase Dorsuleski, Gore, and Jacques Boulais each finished with two total shots.

The draw leaves Wabash (9-2-2, 1-1-2) tied for fifth place in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings. The Little Giants travel to Hiram Saturday for a 5 p.m. contest against the Terriers.
