A change of location allowed Wabash to final play its first varsity lacrosse match Saturday afternoon. The Little Ginats traveled to Tennessee to play Milwaukee School of Engineering, ending in an 18-8 loss.
The match was originally scheduled to be played Saturday evening at the University of Notre Dame, but poor weather conditions threatened to cancel the contest altogether. The team traveled to Sewanee instead, giving the Little Giants a chance to play for the first time after their first three matches were postponed due to inclement weather.
Wabash trailed 2-0 before
Austin Crosley scored the first goal in the history of the program on a man advantage after an interference penalty by MSOE. The Little Giants tied the score three minutes later when
Glenn Patterson found the back of the net off a pass by Crosley to make the score 2-2. Wabash trailed 3-2 when
Colin Corcoran provided the third goal of the afternoon in the first period to even the score again. The Little Giants would get no closer than two goals after MSOE tallied three straight for a 6-3 edge. A big third period by the Raiders proved to be the difference. The veteren MSOE (1-0) squad outscored Wabash 6-1 in the third to take the victory.
Corcoran finished with three goals on seven shots. Crosley scored a pair of goals out of seven attempts.
Zach Scarano also added two goals, while Patterson finished with one.
Todd Hoogland recorded two saves in goal for the Little Giants.
Wabash (0-1) returns to action Wednesday with a 7 p.m. contest at Wilmington.
