Baseball Closes Florida Trip With Win

Wabash finished a nine-game spring break season-opening series with a 4-2 win over Farmingdale State College Saturday.

Starter Jensen Kirch dominated the early innings to pick up his first victory. The sophomore gave up a single to open the game, then retired the next 15 batters in a row. He worked five innings of one-hit ball with two strikeouts. Bryan Roberts held the game in check, scattering four hits and one walk while giving up one run. He struck out two Rams batters. Michael Herrmann came on to record his first save, allowing a run in the ninth on four hits while striking out two.

Wabash managed five hits, but put together a pair of two-run innings to move to 5-4 for the season. Freshman Cole Harlacher knocked in the first run with a single up the middle for the first run of the game in the second inning. Tyler Hampton scored the second run on a balk.

Harlacher scored the eventual game-winning run on a single by Lucas Stippler. The final run for the Little Giants crossed the plate when Tanner Watson scored on a wild pitch.

Harlacher led Wabash with two hits, while Stippler, Tyler Owensby, and KJ Zelenika each added one hit.

The Little Giants return to action Wednesday with a home contest against Indiana Tech. First pitch at Goodrich Ballpark is set for 3:30 p.m.
