A pair of
Max Rowley goals helped Wabash overcome a 30-minute lightning delay and a tough Franklin College squad in a 3-0 victory Friday night.
Â
Adam Antalis added his first goal of the season to give the Little Giants the road victory.
Â
"We started off well tonight, unlike our first game of the season," Wabash head coach
Chris Keller said. "We were very composed on the ball and had good movement off the ball. Max put away an early chance for his first goal.
Â
"I was really pleased with the way we overcame the lightning delay. That is a difficult mental challenge to deal with and try to get ready to play at a high level again. Max got us going with another goal near the end of the first half to really give us some confidence."
Â
Rowley, who leads the Little Giants with three goals through the first two games of the year, notched his first of the game Friday in the 15th minute off a pass from
Geno James. The teams were pulled off the field for 30 minutes as a thunderstorm rolled through the area, but the Little Giants came right back to add another score when play resumed. Rowley added a second goal on a penalty kick when
Riley Pelton was fouled in the box.
Â
Antalis added the final score in the 66th minute after collecting a pass from
Stojan Krsteski to beat the Franklin goalkeeper for the 3-0 win.
Â
Dayton Jennings and the Wabash defense produced the second straight shutout of the season. Jennings finished with a pair of saves, while the Little Giants' held Franklin (0-2) to four total shots in the match.
Â
"Our defense was solid all night," Keller said. "
Spase Dorsuleski and
Adam Antalis in the middle and Rodigo Porras and
Geno James out wide were all very solid. Offensively we took care of our opportunities in front of the net. We put the ball away when we had chances. Franklin played us tough. They're a very good team. This was just a great game by the guys."
Â
Wabash (2-0) returns to Mud Hollow Stadium Wednesday for its home season opener. The Little Giants play Earlham College with the match slated to start at 5 p.m.
