Wabash shot 32.8 percent from field, hitting just 21-of-64 attempts in its 71-54 home loss to Oberlin Saturday afternoon at Chadwick Court.

The Little Giants fell behind six at halftime in the North Coast Athletic Conference affair after hitting only eight of their 32 shots in the first half. Oberlin (10-7, 5-5 NCAC) took advantage of the sluggish offense by Wabash, stretching its lead to as much as 20 points in the second half.

Wabash took an early led after a technical foul for a scorebook entry error prior to the opening tip. A
Johnny Jager basket put the Little Giants up 3-0. The Yeomen answered with a 10-0 run to take the lead for good. Three days earlier the Little Giants rallied for a five-point home victory over DePauw University at home after falling behind by double digits. This time there would be no comeback.

"I didn't like our look after the first 60 seconds," Wabash head coach
Kyle Brumett said. "I thought we came out fine but when Oberlin was going to make it difficult we didn't handle it real well. That's really disappointing.

"This team has to continue to learn how hard it's going to be. You can't have effort on Wednesdays and not on Saturdays. We've got a lot to work on. Mentally we just have to be a little tougher than we are. When you get to late January and early February it's not so much physical as it is mental. We did not have a very good mental mindset today."

Oberlin, playing without its second-leading scorer Nathan Cohen (13.3 ppg), utilized the inside game of Randy Ollie and guard play of Jack Poyle and Zach Meyers to earn the season sweep of Wabash. Ollie scored 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting to pace the Yeomen. Poyle finished 6-of-7 from the field and scored 18 points. Meyers added 14 points. Oberlin picked up 28 points in the paint. The Yeomen shot 25-of-43 from the field overall (58.1 percent) including a 14-of-19 effort in the second half (73.7 percent).

Ollie and fellow senior Matt Walker controlled the pain on the Little Giants' offensive end, holding the Wabash inside game from
Daniel Purvlicis and
Evan Frank. Purvlicis finished with 10 points while Frank was held to six.
Austin Burton led Wabash with 11 points. Purvlicis grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Little Giants in that category. Frank finished with six boards.

Wabash (9-8, 3-7 NCAC) plays a pair of road conference games next week. The Little Giants travel to Wittenberg (12-5, 7-3 NCAC) Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. before heading to Wooster (12-5, 8-2 NCAC) for a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday.
