Wabash Adds Three Points With 1-0 Win at Wooster

Spase Dorsuleski scored his fifth goal of the season Saturday to give Wabash a 1-0 victory at Wooster and keep the Little Giants near the top of the North Coast Athletic Conference soccer standings.

David Riggs took a free kick for the Little Giants and connected on the attempt with Dorsuleski, whose shot sailed toward the far post and into the net in the 72nd minute.

The game was played in damp, cold, and muddy conditions after rain swept through the Midwest on Thursday and Friday. Wabash played the Scots (4-11-1, 1-6-0 NCAC) even in the first half. The Little Giants held a two-shot advantage in the opening 45 minutes with both teams putting a single shot on goal. Wooster outshot Wabash 6-4 in the second period, which included three shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Dayton Jennings kept a clean sheet for the game. He finished with four saves for his fifth complete-game shutout of the season.

"We came up with a vital three points on the road today," Wabash head coach Chris Keller said. "It was very difficult to play good soccer today in very poor, muddy, slippery conditions. That turned the game into a physical game. It was a battle of wills. I'm very proud of we came out and played and how we just kept fighting and believing in each other. I give a lot credit to Wooster. It was the hardest working team we've played all season.

"We came right back at them in the second half. Spase came up big with the game-winning goal with a finish on the set piece. Now we look forward to a pair of home games this upcoming week."

Wabash (10-4-2, 5-1-1 NCAC) sits in second place with 16 points pending the outcome of the Saturday night match between Oberlin (15 points) and Ohio Wesleyan (11 points). Kenyon leads the standings with 18 points while DePauw sits one point behind Wabash with 15.

The Little Giants play host to DePauw Tuesday at 4 p.m. before closing out the regular season Saturday at home against Kenyon at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
