Second-Half Effort Propels Wabash to Home Win Over Rose

Wabash overcame a sluggish first half with 42 second-half points to notch their first home win of the season with a 69-53 win Sunday afternoon over Rose-Hulman.

The Little Giants had four starters finish with double-digit scoring totals led by sophomore Evan Frank with 18 points. Sophomores Ronald Ryan and Logan White both had 10 points, as did freshman Colton Garland.

Wabash (2-2) outrebounded Rose-Hulman 54-27 in the game and grabbed 15 offensive rebounds as well. White paired his points with 14 rebounds for his second double-double of the year.

Wabash opened the game on a 8-2 run before Rose-Hulman started to make a charge. They cut the Wabash lead down to 27-26 at the half. Much of the scoring for Rose-Hulman (1-2) was off the seven offensive rebounds they pulled down giving them 38 shot attempts in the first half.

"Seven offensive rebounds in the first half does not make me very happy," head coach Kyle Brumett said." However, three in the second half does make me very happy. The rebounding has to be something the players own. The score in the first half was two-fold, it was the number of turnovers we had, and the number of offensive rebounds they had."

The Little Giants came out in the second half shooting the ball at a 52-percent clip and scored a very efficient 42 points while only allowing 27 Rose-Hulman points.

Wabash had some key players step off the bench in the second half as freshmen Alex Eberhard and Harrison Hallstrom as well as sophomore Joey Lenkey played solid minutes.

Wabash will travel to Evansville to take on the Evansville Purple Aces on Wednesday followed by the Little Giants' conference home opener Saturday at 2 p.m.

"It's a challenging week," Brumett said. "Evansville is a good team. Having the opportunity to go and compete against a team like that and play them will be good for us. Wooster will be a real challenge here at home for our young group and they will be a handful."
