Soccer Salutes Seniors With 1-0 Shutout Over Wooster

The Wabash soccer team closed out the 2017 regular season with a 1-0 win over Wooster Saturday on an afternoon where the team honored its seniors as the best four-year group in terms of wins in school history.

The Little Giants finished the regular season 11-5-1, giving the seniors 46 wins over the past four season, the most victories in a four-year span by any group of Wabash soccer players. Alexiz Arellano, Spase Dorsuleski, Mike Gore, Stojan Krsteski, Bayden Lee, Noah Newcomb, Cory Sims, and Francisco Trejo also helped Wabash earn the number three seed in next week's North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament with a 5-3-1 mark in league play. The Little Giants will travel to Ohio Wesleyan Wednesday, November 1 for a 7 p.m. match.

Cesar Martinez provided the only goal of the match in the 41st minute for his second goal of the season. Goalkeeper Chad Wunderlich made two saves in the first half against Wooster (6-11-1, 1-7-1 NCAC). The Scots were held without a shot on goal in the second half of the match.

"I'm very happy with the team's performance today," Wabash head coach Chris Keller said. "We got particularly good games from the back five, including three freshmen in Chad Wunderlich, Javier, Araujo, and Justin Kopp along with sophomore Michael Tanchevski and junior Christian Stiverson. They did well to get the shutout. It was also a good opportunity to rest some guys to allow us to prepare for Wednesday at Ohio Wesleyan.

"I'm really happy with the unsung heroes of the team like Keith Owen or David Ortega who work hard every day in practice. Those are some of the guys who haven't seen the field so far this season but they push our guys in practice and have really helped get us to where we are."
