Deflection Ends Wabash Winning Streak

A corner kick deflected by a Wabash defender found the back of the net in double overtime to give Kenyon College a 2-1 win over the Little Giants Saturday.

The loss ended a six-game winning streak for Wabash and dropped the team from the ranks of the undefeated in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings.

Wabash took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a shot by Abdoulie Waggeh in the 34th minute to score his first goal of the season. The Lord (8-2-2, 3-0 NCAC) evened the score in the second period off a goal by Henry Myers for his tenth of the season.

The game remained tied at 1-1 through the end of regulation. Kenyon recorded the lone shot attempt in the first overtime, sending the teams in to the second ten-minute session. The Lords took on of their three corner kicks in the second overtime, scoring off the deflection to take the home victory.

Kenyon outshot Wabash 19-7 and put eight shots on goal compared to two for the Little Giants.

Demitri Lee mad six saves in 105 minutes of action at goalkeeper.

"It was a disappointing ending to a game where we fought and played well," Wabash head coach Chris Keller said. "We created chances and got the lead on the goal by Abdoulie. We were disappointed in the two goals we gave up. We were unlucky on the overtime goal. We defended corners well all day. We had an opportunity to get the win by going up 1-0 and had chances to add to that lead. But we weren't able to do that.

"I'm proud of our guys. They worked hard all game long. Now we need to take care of business on Wednesday against a Wittenberg team that's won two games in a row."

The Little Giants (8-3, 2-1 NCAC) play host to Wittenberg Wednesday at 4 p.m.
