Brennan's Late Goal Gives Wabash Lacrosse Season-Opening Win

Collin Brennan scored his third goal of the game in the final minute to give Wabash a 10-9 victory over Millsaps in the opening game of the 2017 lacrosse season.
 
The Little Giants used a second-quarter shutout to provide Todd Richardson his first victory as head coach of the Wabash program
 
Wabash jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Dajon Thomas before Millsaps (2-4) responded with four consecutive goals before Brennan ended the streak with the first of his three goals in the closing minute of the first period.
 
The Little Giants locked down on defense in the second period. Goalkeeper Max Atkins shut out the Majors in the period, making three saves and facing seven total attempts. The Wabash offense took advantage by scoring four goals on shots by Steven Stark, Tucker Dixon, Billy Bernhardt, and Nick Buening to claim a 6-4 advantage at halftime.
 
Andrew Weiland gave Wabash a 7-4 lead with his first goal of the season at the start of the third period. Millsaps mounted a rally with a pair of goals before Brennan took a pass from Dixon on a quick break and fired a shot into the upper right corner of the net to give Wabash an 8-6 advantage. Bernhardt added another goal to make it 9-6 with just over one period to play.
 
Millsaps scored with 20 seconds remaining in the third period, followed by a pair of goals in the fourth period including a shot from Cameron Director with 4:58 left in regulation to even the score at 9-9.
 
Brennan provided the game-clinching shot with 43 seconds remaining to notch his third goal of the contest and the game-clinching score for the Little Giants.
 
Millsaps outshot Wabash 44-33. Both teams finished with 21 shots on goal. Atkins collected 12 saves to earn his first victory. Michael Andrepont stopped 11 shots for Millsaps. Brennan finished with three goals on six shots, while Bernhardt scored twice out of six attempts. Dixon notched two assists and led the team with eight ground balls.
 
Wabash travels to Mount St. Joseph University on March 3 to begin its spring break trip.
