Wabash scored five goals in the second half of its spring break road finale against Wentworth Tuesday night, but could not overcome an early deficit to eventually lose 13-10.
Collin Brennan scored three goals for the Little Giants, who move to 2-2 on the season.
Steven Stark added a pair of goals, as did
Andrew Weiland.
Tucker Dixon,
Billy Bernhardt, and
Jacob Taylor each found the back of the net for Wabash in the game.
Weiland scored back-to-back goals in the opening period to answer a Wentworth (2-0) score before the Leopards took a 3-2 lead with two goals of their own. Bernhardt tied the score at 3-3 with 4:51 remaining in the first period.
The Leopards ran off five consecutive goals before eventually taking a 10-5 lead at halftime. Wabash limited the Wentworth offense to three goals over the final 30 minutes of playing time while tallying a pair of man-up goals in an attempt to rally. The Little Giants would draw no closer than the final three-point differential in the closing minutes of play.
Max Atkins finished with 15 saves in the contest. Wentworth outshot the Little Giants 51-29 but put only 28 shots on goal compared to 18 for Wabash. The Little Giants were 3-of-7 in man-up situations while shutting out Wentworth on extra-man opportunities in nine tries.
Wabash returns home to conclude the spring break schedule against Calvin College Saturday at 1 p.m. at Fischer Field.
