Lacrosse Completes Spring Break Road Trip

Wabash scored five goals in the second half of its spring break road finale against Wentworth Tuesday night, but could not overcome an early deficit to eventually lose 13-10.

Collin Brennan scored three goals for the Little Giants, who move to 2-2 on the season. Steven Stark added a pair of goals, as did Andrew Weiland. Tucker Dixon, Billy Bernhardt, and Jacob Taylor each found the back of the net for Wabash in the game.

Weiland scored back-to-back goals in the opening period to answer a Wentworth (2-0) score before the Leopards took a 3-2 lead with two goals of their own. Bernhardt tied the score at 3-3 with 4:51 remaining in the first period.

The Leopards ran off five consecutive goals before eventually taking a 10-5 lead at halftime. Wabash limited the Wentworth offense to three goals over the final 30 minutes of playing time while tallying a pair of man-up goals in an attempt to rally. The Little Giants would draw no closer than the final three-point differential in the closing minutes of play.

Max Atkins finished with 15 saves in the contest. Wentworth outshot the Little Giants 51-29 but put only 28 shots on goal compared to 18 for Wabash. The Little Giants were 3-of-7 in man-up situations while shutting out Wentworth on extra-man opportunities in nine tries.

Wabash returns home to conclude the spring break schedule against Calvin College Saturday at 1 p.m. at Fischer Field.
