Wabash turned its offense loose in game one Friday against Wittenberg, earning a 13-1 victory in seven innings versus the visiting Tigers. The Little Giants rallied for the game-winning run in the eighth inning of game two to claim a 3-2 win for wins in the first two of a four-game series.
Wabash took an early lead in game one thanks to the second home run of the season by
Sean Roginski on a drive to left field. The Little Giants tallied six runs in the second inning, paced by a two-run single by
Jared Wolfe. The sophomore added another RBI with a triple in the third to stretch the advantage to 8-0. Wolfe finished the game with four RBI on a 4-for-5 effort from the plate. Wabash pounded 13 hits in the game.
Tyler Downing and
Henry Wannemuehler each finished with two hits.
Nick Chao drove in a pair of runs for Wabash.
Jensen Kirch scattered eight hits over seven innings when the game was halted due to the 10-run rule. He allowed one earned run, walked two batters, and struck out five on the way to his fourth win of the season.
The Little Giants took a 2-0 lead in the third inning of game two thanks to RBI singles by
Eric Chavez and
Andrew Roginski. Wittenberg (8-16, 3-7 North Coast Athletic Conference West Division) tallied a run in the third, then tied the game at 2-2 in the eighth inning on a single by Jace Barga. Wabash responded in the bottom of the inning starting with a leadoff walk to
Erich Lange. Downing moved Lange to second with a sacrifice bunt. Wannemuehler followed with single to move Lange to third. Chao provided the final heroics in the inning with an RBI single to left to bring Lange home with the go-ahead run.
Wabash reliever
Zach Moffett closed out the ninth inning after Wittenberg rallied to lead the bases with one out in the ninth. Moffett struck out the first batter he faced then induced a game-ending flyout to secure the win and record his first save.
Luke Dant earned the win, working 1-2/3 innings of relief. He gave up one earned run on one hit.
Bryan Roberts started the game and left after 6-2/3 innings. He allowed one run on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Kevin O'Donnell walked the only batter he faced in the game.
Chavez, Chao, and
Andrew Roginski finished with two hits and one RBI apiece.
Wabash improved to 15-12 overall and 4-6 in NCAC West Division games. The two teams concluded the four-game series Saturday beginning at noon.
