Little Giants Close Home Portion of Lacrosse Season vs Witt

Wabash completed the home portion of its third varsity lacrosse season Tuesday night with a North Coast Athletic Conference contest against Wittenberg University. The Little Giants scored first but the visiting Tigers took a 19-6 victory at Fischer Field.

Jacob Taylor scored the first of his three goals six minutes into the contest to put Wabash in front 1-0. Wittenberg (9-5, 6-2 NCAC) answered with 1:41 remaining in the opening period to tie the score with its first goal. The Tigers tacked on five more goals in the second period before Steven Stark collected a pass to the left side of the goal from Tucker Dixon and found the back of the net for his first goal of the game, closing the score to 6-2. Wittenberg added three more goals to move in front 9-2. Collin Brennan ended the Wittenberg scoring streak with an unassisted goal with 1:51 remaining in the first half. The Tigers add one more goal before the halftime horn to take a 10-3 lead.

Taylor started the second half with another goal, this time off a pass from Brennan, to make it 10-4. Wittenberg scored the next nine goals to extend its lead before Dajon Thomas and Taylor tallied the final two goals of the game for the final score.

Wabash goalkeeper Max Atkins recorded 18 saves overall. The Tigers outshot Wabash overall 80-28. Wittenberg put 37 shots on goal. The Little Giants finished with 14 shots on goal, scoring six times. Wittenberg also finished with 25 wins in the 29 faceoff opportunities in the game and went 1-1 in its lone man-up opportunity while Wabash went 0-3 in extra-man chances. 

Wabash (5-10, 1-6 NCAC) concludes its 2017 season schedule Saturday with a 2 p.m. contest at fourth-ranked Denison University.
