Late Rally Leads to Wabash Loss in Series Sweep By Denison

For second consecutive day, Wabash could only watch as Denison celebrated a walk off hit to claim a win in the first game of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Big Red singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth in game one for a 3-2 victory before handing the Little Giants a 15-0 loss for the four-game series sweep.

Wabash took the early lead in game one, scoring a pair of runs in the third inning. Andrew Roginski drove home the first RBI with a double to right center to score Jared Wolfe. Taylor Canter brought the second run across with a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.

Denison cut the lead to one run by scoring in the bottom of the third off starting pitcher Luke Dant, who worked five strong innings of three-hit baseball. He allowed no walks and struck out six batters. He left the game in line to earn the victory before the Big Red struck for the game tying and winning runs in the ninth inning.

Denison put runners aboard in the bottom of the ninth with a walk and a hit batsman before pinchhitter Joseph Maydwell hit a single through the right side to tie the game at 2-2. Eric Zmuda delivered a two-out single to center field in the next at bat to extend the Big Red's winning streak to nine consecutive games.

Erich Lange took the loss in relief. He pitched 1-2/3 innings, giving up one hit and both runs. Cody Cochran worked two scoreless innings of relief to set up Lange for the possible save. Kevin O'Donnell surrendered the game-winning hit facing his only batter of the game.

Sean Roginski led the Little Giants with a pair of hits. Wabash was limited to five hits in the contest.

The Little Giants fell behind early in game two, surrendering a run in the first and four more in the third inning. Denison exploded for seven runs in the fourth and tacked on three more in the sixth before the game was halted for the run rule in the seventh.

Both Sean Roginski and Andrew Roginski each collected two hits for Wabash. The Little Giants hit safely five times in the game. Ryan Thomas took the loss as the starter. Wabash rolled through five pitchers in the contest.

The Little Giants will try to rebound Tuesday in a non-conference game at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.
