Little Giants Control Soccer Match at Anderson

Bayden Lee scored the first of three goals for Wabash at Anderson Wednesday night.
Box Score Wabash soccer made two early goals stand in a 3-1 road victory Wednesday evening at Anderson University.

Francisco Trejo, recently named the North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week after scoring three goals and an assist over the weekend, continued his strong play by adding two more assists in the victory.

Bayden Lee provided the first lead for Wabash by heading a pass from Trejo into the net for his first goal of the season and a 1-0 lead for the Little Giants 12 minutes into the contest.

The Wabash advantage lasted until the 34th minute when Anderson (4-3-1) tied the match with the second goal of the season off the foot of Wes Erny. The Little Giants responded by once again taking control of the game, scoring one minute later with a goal from Jacques Boulais off a pass from Christian Stiverson.

"We came out strong and played well," Wabash head coach Chris Keller said. "We played a great brand of possession soccer and kept our composure. The two goals in the first half really helped solidify the result. Unfortunately, we gave one back after we scored our first goal when a couple of errors led to a to regain the momentum."

Wabash maintained the one-goal lead into the second period before adding some insurance in the 56th minute. Alexiz Arellano scored his first goal of the season, taking a corner kick from Trejo and depositing it in the back of the Ravens' net.

"Trejo made a great service in to Alexiz to make it 3-1," Keller said. "That gave us a chance to get some experienced guys to rest some minutes and get some younger guys on the field. It was exciting to see our level of play never dropped when we made those substitutions."

Wabash outshot Anderson 20-5 and held an 8-2 edge in shots on goal. Freshman Demitri Lee earned the victory as the Little Giants' goalkeeper. He stopped one shot on goal in the second half.

"This was a good way to head into conference play and a very difficult match at Hiram College this weekend," Keller said.

Wabash heads to Hiram Saturday to begin the NCAC portion of the 2017 schedule.  The match begins at 2 p.m.
