Boulais' Hat Trick Lifts Wabash Soccer to Win at Hiram

Jacques Boulais scored three goals for Wabash, including the game winner in overtime, to give the Little Giants a 3-2 road win at Hiram College to open the North Coast Athletic Conference portion of the 2017 season.

The Little Giant had barely gotten off the bus before Boulais sparked the team to a 2-0 lead. His first goal came 2:19 into the match off a pass from Stojan Krsteski for a 1-0 Wabash lead. Boulais tallied his second goal off the contest three minutes later with Bayden Lee providing the assist.

With the Little Giants well on their way to the road victory, Hiram began its rally. The Terriers (2-6, 0-1 NCAC) cut the lead to one goal in the 24th minute off a goal from Keanu Shelton. Hiram tied the match at 2-2 when Christian Nshimyumur found the back of the net in the 35th minute.

The second half belonged to Wabash, but the Little Giants were unable to score the game-winning goal in regulation. The Little Giants outshot Hiram 13-1 in the second half, putting six shots on goal.

Boulais netted the hat trick in the fourth minute of overtime. He collected a pass from Krsteski in the extra period to put the game away. Boulais' hat trick was the first of his collegiate career and the first by a Wabash player since Francisco Trejo scored three goals against Eureka in 2014.

"This was a fantastic result on the road against a good Hiram team that is a handful to play," Wabash head coach Chris Keller said. "We got off to a great start, but unfortunately we shot ourselves in the foot a little bit to allow Hiram back into the game. We came back out in the second half with a complete team effort with a 'Wabash Always Fights' mentality. We felt if we could get the game to overtime we were going to put them away."

Boulais and Lee led the Little Giants with three shots on goal apiece. Chad Wunderlich earned the victory in goal for the Little Giants.

Wabash (6-2, 1-0 NCAC) will play a non-conference home match Tuesday at 4 p.m. versus Mount St. Joseph University.
