Schreiber's 23 Sends Wabash To A 95-71 Home Win Over Elmhurst

Wabash freshman Kellen Schreiber came off the bench to score 23 points Wednesday night in the Little Giants' 95-71 home victory over Elmhurst College.
 
Schreiber hit 8-of-13 shots from the field including 3-of-7 from three-point range to pick up his highest scoring output in his first four games as a member of the Wabash (4-0) squad.
 
The Little Giants came out on the attack on offense, quickly overpowering the visiting Bluejays (2-2). Wabash outscored Elmhurst 10-1 over the first five minutes of the game after the Bluejays, who came into the game averaging 84 points a game, jumped in front 2-0 in the first 22 seconds of the game. The Little Giants used its up-tempo attack to score six of the ten points on fast break opportunities.
 
Ben Stachowski made back-to-back three pointers, followed by a trey from Colten Garland to extend the lead to 15 with 14:07 left in the first half. The Bluejays only came as close as 11 points in the final four minutes of the period before Schrieber hit one of his four triples to push the Little Giants' lead back to 14. Jack Davidson added another three for a 48-31 lead before Wabash headed to the locker room at the half holding a 54-38 advantage on the scoreboard.
 
The start of the second half was similar to that of the first for Wabash with Little Giants pushing the lead up to 30 points, capped by another three-pointer from Schreiber with 12:38 remaining in the contest. The Bluejays eventually cut the lead to 17 points only to see Wabash move back in front by 20 before finishing off the game with the 24-point victory.
 
Freshman Tyler Watson came off the bench and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Little Giants in that category. Wabash won the rebounding battle 48-35 against an Elmhurst team that came into the game outrebounding its opponents by an average of 17 caroms a contest.
 
Davidson added 17 points for the Little Giants. Stachowski finished with 10 points. Jake Rhode, averaging 22.7 points through Elmhurst's first three games, was held to a team-high 13 points to lead the Bluejays in scoring in the game.
 
Wabash shot 29-of-62 from the field (46.8 percent) for the game and hit 14 of its 32 three-point attempts for 43.8 percent. The Little Giants to 9-of-25 shooting from three-point range (36 percent) and 25-of-63 from the field overall (39.7 percent).
 
The four-game winning streak is the longest for Wabash since the Little Giants started the 2011-2012 season with nine wins before finishing the season with an overall record of 18-8.
 
The Little Giants begin the North Coast Athletic Conference portion of the 2018-2019 schedule this Saturday with a 2 p.m. home game against Denison University.
