Wabash Sweeps Kenyon Series With 3-0 Win Sunday

A two-run single by freshman Matthew Annee provided the only runs the Wabash baseball team would need to complete the two-game sweep of Kenyon College with a 3-0 win Sunday to improve to 16-5 for the season and 3-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference games.

The Little Giants opened the fifth inning with Jackson Blevins being hit by pitch. Bryce Aldridge crushed a pitch down the left field line, but the ball bounced right to the Kenyon (7-11, 1-3 NCAC) outfielder to hold Aldridge to a single and keep Blevins at second. Andrew Jumonville moved the runners up one base with a perfect sacrifice bunt down the third-base line to set up Annee. The freshman fired a single into left field to bring both runners home, providing Wabash with a 2-0 lead.

The Little Giants added another run in the seventh on a two-out pop up by Henry Wannemuehler that was mishandled by the Lords, allowing Jumonville to score from second after lacing a one-out double to right-center field earlier in the inning.

Cody Cochran only needed the one run to earn his fifth win of the season. The senior pitched seven innings, limiting Kenyon to four hits and one walk while striking out five. Zach Moffett earned his third save of the season by retiring six of the eight batters he faced in the final two innings. He surrendered back-to-back two-out hits in the eighth inning before getting a fly out to right to retire the Lords. Moffett struck out two of the final three batters in the ninth to end the game.

Wabash managed just eight hits in a good pitchers' dual. Tyler Downing collected a bunt single and double. Jared Wolfe, Blevins, Aldridge, Jumonville, Annee, and Chavez added the remaining six hits. Sean Roginski stretched his streak of consecutive games reaching base to 19 with a pair of walks.

The Little Giants bounce right back to action in an NCAC doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at home against Wittenberg in a series rescheduled from last Wednesday after being postponed by weather. First pitch of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
