Second-Half Rally Sends Wabash To Fourth Straight Victory

Wabash used a 22-8 run over seven minutes in the second half to pull away from Mount St. Joseph and claim an 84-72 home win in a Tuesday evening basketball game at Chadwick Court.
 
The Little Giants (4-1), ranked 23rd in the latest D3hoops.com poll, pulled away from the visiting Lions (1-5) after Mount St. Joseph had reclaimed a 59-58 lead with 9:22 left in the game. The two teams had traded the lead seven times with nine ties before a Tyler Watson jumper in the lane put Wabash in front by a point. Watson scored a three-point basket to extend the advantage to four points. Brady Thomas answered with a basket for the Lions but Kellen Schreiber scored on the other end for Wabash to provide a 65-61 lead with 7:01 remaining.
 
Schreiber made a pair of free throws on the next offensive possession for Wabash to push the lead to six points. Watson added another three-pointer to put the Little Giants up 70-61. Thomas scored again for Mount St. Joseph but Jack Davidson put Wabash up by double digits with a long-range triple. Two minutes later Watson scored another three-point shot for an 80-67 Wabash lead. The Little Giants closed out the contest with free throws for the 12-point win.
 
The Little Giants jumped out to a six-point lead at the start of the game before the Lions eventually tied the score at 10-10. Joel Day gave Mount St. Joseph its first lead of the game with a basket with 13:41 left in the first half. The Lions eventually took a three-point lead at 33-30 with two minutes remaining in the first period before Wabash regained the lead with a basket by Connor Rotterman and a pair of free throws from Davidson. Watson added two free throws near the end of the half to give Wabash a 38-34 edge at the break.
 
The Wabash bench outscored Mount St. Joseph by ten points. Ahmoni Jones scored 12 points off the bench for the Little Giants and grabbed five rebounds. The Little Giants owned an 11-board advantage in the contest. Wabash also used its inside game to score 30 points in the paint. Nine offensive rebounds also led to 14 second-chance points for the Little Giants.
 
Davidson led Wabash in scoring with 22 points. Watson added a season-best 18 points. Schreiber chipped in 13 points with six rebounds. Harrison Hallstrom scored seven points and grabbed 10 boards.
 
Devin Young paced the Lions with 19 points and six rebounds. Thomas scored 14 points, Day added 11 points, and Tanner Clos finished with 10.
 
Wabash will travel to Elmhurst College on Saturday after the Thanksgiving holiday to play the Bluejays in a 4 p.m. (CST) contest.
