Lacrosse Suffers Road Loss at Hope College

Wabash trailed Hope College in its Saturday lacrosse contest in Michigan 2-1 through the first four minutes before a six-goal effort to close out the first period by the host Flying Dutchmen led to a 15-4 loss for the Little Giants.
 
Wabash (2-4) scored at with 11:18 remaining in the opening period of play when Tucker Dixon notched his team-leading 13th goal of the year on a man-advantage opportunity to cut the Hope (6-1) advantage to 2-1. The Flying Dutchmen responded with three consecutive goals to expand their lead to 5-1 before Steven Stark picked up his seventh goal of the year for Wabash. Hope added three more scores in the period to take an 8-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
The Wabash defense clamped down in the second period, limiting Hope to two goals on 13 total shots while forcing seven turnovers. Wabash finished with 12 caused turnovers on a total of 24 miscues by Hope. Aaron Elsing and Joe LaRue each finished with four caused turnovers apiece. The Little Giants also cleared all 11 attempts in the period as part of a 30-of-35 mark for clearing attempts in the game.
 
Trailing 10-2 at halftime, the Little Giants once again held Hope to a pair of goals in the third period but were unable to draw closer in the overall score. The Flying Dutchmen attempted 12 total shots with only four on goal. Max Atkins, who finished with 19 saves in the game, made two of his saves in the third to keep the score at 12-2.
 
Stark added another goal for Wabash on a power play in the closing minutes of the game for his eighth goal of the year. Collin Brennan added his 12th goal this season to complete the scoring for Wabash. The Little Giants finished with 19 total shot attempts and 11 shots on goal. Dixon and Brennan each posted five shot attempts to lead the Little Giants. Wabash was not called for a penalty in the game while Hope accumulated seven penalties for a total of six minutes of power play tries for the Little Giants.
 
Wabash returns home for a Wednesday contest against Anderson University beginning at 4 p.m.
