Thompson, Wunderlich Named NCAC Athletes Of The Week

Wabash College freshman quarterback Liam Thompson and junior goalkeeper Chad Wunderlich have been named North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Athletes of the Week for the period ending September 29. Thompson earned NCAC Football Offensive Player of the Week honors. Wunderlich received the NCAC Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week award.

Thompson threw for a career-best 311 yards in Saturday's 34-20 victory by the Little Giants over Denison University. He completed 18-of-23 passes with two touchdowns. Both scoring throws went to fellow freshman Cooper Sullivan on tosses of 40 and 27 yards. The 27-yard TD pass gave Wabash the lead after Denison had tied the score at 20-20. His 300-yard passing effort is the first for the Little Giants since 2016.

Thompson added a rushing touchdown for the first score of the game for Wabash on a 50-yard run to provide an early 7-3 lead.

Wunderlich helped Wabash to a 3-0 victory Saturday afternoon over The College of Wooster in the Little Giants' opening NCAC game of the season. The junior stopped all seven shots on goal he faced from the visiting Scots to preserve the shutout victory. Wooster fired ten total shot attempts in the match.

The shutout was the third complete-game blank sheet of the season for Wunderlich and the 16th of his career to place him third on the Wabash career list. He trails Tony Beuke, who recorded 16 total shutouts and one combined shutout from 1990-1993, in second place. Wunderlich is also third in Wabash history for all-time goalkeeper victories with 22 wins in 34 games played.
